To whom it may concern,
My name is Jason, and I am humbled by your consideration. I am currently a student of Temple University, Japan Campus, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science. I hope one day to serve as a bridge between Japan and the United States. I believe the divisions between humanity are illusory, and that our world is meant to be borderless. Diversity in culture, character, and experience is a great strength, and one I believe is abundant in Japan. I chose to stay with a Japanese host family rather than in a university dorm. Though with a dorm comes freedom and independence, my host family has been immeasurably more worthwhile. I’ve been educated on the culture, language, and history of this country. I still have a great deal to learn, but I’m looking forward to continuing my homestay beyond this semester to do so. I don’t measure the worth of my university classes in credits, but by the content of their education. I believe that credits or any other mere requirement to graduate is secondary to my individual growth. I use my classes to better understand the world I live in now, and how to improve the world I’ll one day inherit. I believe an education grants me the power needed to achieve this task. This task will only be accomplished through communication. A skill that I believe is the most important on Earth. Through communication, we will come to understand one another across distances, cultures, and languages. I hope these traits and values are those which will enrich your life.
Sincerely,
Jason
