I am from Portugal and my home university is the University of Lisbon. I taught English and Portuguese to Japanese exchange students in Lisbon.
In the trial lesson, the student and I have a conversation about his/her needs, I can check his/her level. Then I suggest the student suitable material. I think this first meeting is very important.
My approach is to have the student use the language skill (conversation, grammar, test preparation,etc) he/she is practicing as soon as possible.
I am a nice and easy-going person.
