Aloha! My name is Michael Otto, I’m an English Teacher located in Okinawa, Japan. I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. I’ve decided to settle in Okinawa because my wife is from here and we wanted to be closer to family and raise our 3 year old son within the Japanese culture, which I’ve always highly respected and revered.
My hobbies include running, and reading about various topics such as self improvement, philosophy, meditation, history, culture and health.
My core values in life are based around the philosophy of Growth and Giving. What I’ve come to realize is that in order to be truly fulfilled, one must find ways to grow as a person through self improvement but one must also do their best to help others grow as well. These values are why I chose teaching English as a profession. The English language is widely utilized internationally, therefore by teaching others how to read, write, and speak English, I can open a wide variety of possibilities for them to grow as an individual.
I’m highly versed in Business English and Formal Speech through my past profession as a Manager and Supervisor within the Hospitality Industry in Hawaii. Being highly adaptable to diversity amongst individuals is another skill that I’ve honed in my previous career.
English lessons that I can conduct are:
American English
Hospitality English (Service Industry)
Business English (office setting)
English for Beginners through Advanced levels
Conversational English
Travel English
Speech and Writing
Phonics
My goal for each lesson is to make it fun, engaging and relatable to everyday life while making each individual feel comfortable and encouraged. I will often employ games, role-playing, open discussions, and individual practice work for reading and writing. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. Thank you for taking the time to review my profile and I look forward to working with you.
