Hi! Nice to meet you! My name is Martin.
よろしくお願いします!
I'm from the UK, but I've been living and teaching in Tokyo now for 8 years. I'm currently teaching English at a vocational college in Takadanobaba, as well as an IELTS test preparation centre in Meguro.
This year, I'm looking to start teaching more via Skype. I have a lot of experience of doing this while in Japan, but I want to take it to the next level, as most companies that offer such a service, do not give the technology much thought.
In my experience, these kinds of activities work well via Skype, but I would consider anything else you might want to practice or do!
* IELTS Speaking and Writing Tests.
I have lots of experience doing these in real time, stopping the test occasionally to give feedback, hints and examples of how to answer the questions. The test itself might take 25 minutes. About 50 minutes is a good amount of time to do a test and think about the answers.
* Joint academic writing
This is where I correct and improve a student's academic writing together with them in real-time. I have done this many times for university applications to the UK. The benefit of doing it together as opposed to giving it to a proofreader are obvious. The student can change something they do not like, and can understand their own personal statement better, which they may well be asked about at interview. If you have Microsoft Word, we can edit the text together and you can watch me do it in real time.
* Short movie chats.
We share the screen together and watch a short movie together. I ask a lot of questions to make sure you have understood and we speculate about what will happen next. The movie could be about anything, from a cartoon to a news report, so long as it interests you!
* Free conversation
Probably the easiest to explain, we chat and every 5-10 minutes I show you some of the mistakes you make and we try and correct them together,
I have been teaching for a long time and I have a lot of teaching experience to draw my lessons from. In Japan I have taught in Junior High Schools, High Schools, Universities, adult eikaiwa/conversation schools, after school juku classes and even a foreign language center! I once taught a class of 200 students!
So, if you are just starting out, need help with an essay, want to understand a book or a movie, or brush up on your professional English or exam skills, or even just have a chat… I should be able to help you reach your goals!
There is nothing you can't do in English.
英語ではできないことはありません。
I hope to hear from you soon!
