About me: ?
Originally from the UK, I now live in Okinawa, Japan. When I am not teaching English I can normally be found in the Dojo as my passion is Ryu Kyu (Okinawan) Karate and Kobudo. I hold black belts in both styles and teach weekly, in English / Japanese. In 2019 I wrote a book (English language) about the history and evolution of Karate in Okinawa!
What do I offer:
?Custom teaching style: choose the learning style that best suits you!
?Interesting topics: lessons created on interesting and relevant topics e.g. current affairs
?Personal topics: preparing for a big interview? Getting ready for foreign travel? Starting a new job soon? I have family who live abroad! I just love foreign movies and culture!
?Professional and recreational: advancing your career? Studying for hobbies like Martial Arts, Maritime licenses (diving / sailing)?
?Customised work sheets (English / Japanese)
?Video studying: reviewing sports videos in English language, children’s videos, studying foreign films.
?English writing: reviewing course work, essays and articles.
Teaching Style:
Patient, supportive and encouraging. I always focus on finding ways to encourage the student to relax, find their natural learning style and understand their strengths. Once you experience this and gain confidence, this transfers easily into overcoming weaknesses.
I have extensive experience of teaching in sometimes highly stressful situations (I used to train new Police Officers). My confidence based approach is a tried and tested method for success.
?My personal motto: Never Give Up!?
