ABOUT ME:
Hi!
My name is Justin, and I'm an outgoing and friendly Canadian national living in Tokyo. I have always had a passion for education and literature, and have dedicated myself to pursuing this passion professionally. I have secured my Master’s of Arts (in English Literature) and my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certification from the University of Toronto. I have previously taught English as a Second Language (ESL) courses at a prestigious international high school in Toronto, and have been tutoring students in a private setting for over six years in a variety of subjects. While I specialize in teaching plain English, conversational English and academic English, I am also able to teach Business English for individuals that are inclined to do so. I have a flexible teaching style that can be adapted to suit your needs and individual learning goals. I am also eager to take on new challenges, and am willing to do whatever it takes to help you realize your English language goals!
MY TEACHING STYLE:
My experience as an educator has taught me that each student learns differently, and at their own pace. That is why my teaching style is tailored to each individual’s learning needs and goals. I always provide students with lesson plan overviews at the beginning of each lesson, so that they understand the structure of the lesson, the learning goals and objectives, as well as where we are headed in the subsequent lessons. I also rely on worksheets and readings to bolster my students’ reading and writing proficiency. I also aim to teach my students how to conduct themselves professionally and, most importantly, how to be themselves in a foreign language. Lastly, if you’re hoping to improve your English conversation skills, I also dedicate time to “free speaking”, where we can just talk in plain English to improve your skills.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
During your trial lesson, I will spend roughly five minutes outlining my approach to teaching English, as well as asking you to fill out a short questionnaire about why you are learning English, your learning goals, what you expect from me as a teacher, as well as some information about yourself as a person. The trial lesson is meant to demonstrate my lesson structure, which focuses on comfortable and meaningful conversation about a variety of topics. I also spend time at the beginning of each lesson reviewing what we covered from the previous lesson(s), to evaluate your progress and adapt my teaching style accordingly.
If this sounds like what you’re looking for in an English teacher, send me an email to book your free trial lesson today!
