Hello!
My name is Yuki. I am actually from Kobe, but I have been living overseas in the past 8 years for work so using English or even Spanish at work and in daily life has been very natural to me.
Dues to the amount of years spent overseas(all the English speaking countries and some others), I have somewhat a Canadian/an Australian accent NO I DO NOT have any Japanese accent at all...a lot of people ask me where in the world I am from!
My strongest is with the speaking skill. I am highly capable of helping you improve your accent. I can detect mistakes in your speech quickly that a lot other Japanese teachers can not and I can correct you on the spot. I can give you some tips in carrying a smooth and fluent conversation in English(or Spanish!).
I have to say my way of teaching a little bit unique...I believe more in practical learning.
That being said, all the materials I use are...raw, meaning I use videos, movies, English-English dictionaries, newspapers, and you name it, ALL in English.
There is a common thing that most people do when they learn a new language, which is translating between the 2 languages.
It does help you for sure on a paper exam or if you are trying to be a translator(of course I can help you translate your materials as well), but translating and learning a language practically are 2 different things. The former requires a special skill and a lot of practice that uses a different/theoretical part of your brain. On the other hand the latter requires that you be ALL IN; your passion, your body language, your flexibility in comprehension, the tone of your voice, your smile, you confidence and more, they ALL matter. I know I am listing a lot, but let me assure you, once you get them they are all yours and that is when you start having fun with leaning a language. I love it.
Sorry it has been a bit long, but thank you for reading all the way down! Hope to have fun teaching you.
Yuki
