I will help you practice and develop natural conversations based on your own likes and experiences !
A little introduction.
Having grown up in two different countries and cultures, I have found my core personal strength in observation, comprehension and adaptation.
Australia taught me resourcefulness, humble individualism, creativity in thought, respectful debating, and most importantly, the love for the environment.
With a memory that only starts from attending a small international school in Homebush, my classmates spanned from Yugoslavia to Tonga. We learnt all about our differences but that we were not different. Our little minds saw countries close as next door neighbours and we are taught to love thy neighbour as we would ourselves.
Growing as a teenager in Malaysia was impactful. The melting pot of strong culture, beliefs and practices further grew my understanding of people. From catching up on Grandma’s traditional ways in the house to adhering the military-like style of an all girls school in Kajang, here I learnt of harmony that comes with conformation in collectivistic cultures.
Being proficient in English was a big advantage in getting work in KL (Kuala Lumpur), right after highschool. Good Malay meant more efficient dealings with government offices and even lucky pardons from police for small traffic offenses. Learning Cantonese from drama series on TV proved worthy in attempts to strike good bargains. It was picking up Japanese in a proper language class that I saw how much a language reflects a society’s cultural priorities. This further deepened my understanding of people and cultures.
Being in the frontline for sales meant getting over shyness and learning to sell ice to an Eskimo, which in turn gave me the opportunity to explore various industries. The cold selling ways of digital office solutions, the late nights (and drinking) of the advertising world and the multifaceted lights of the fashion. It was seeing this large colour pallet of people that taught me lessons on painting the world. That we are in charge of the brush on our canvas.
The airlines and logistics connected me back to the world and I remembered again how close we all actually are. And both taught me that most times, urgency has an inner child called anger, that when urgency doesn’t get what it wants, anger comes out screaming. This is where I learnt a great life lesson on dealing with people, of responding vs reacting.
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” is a quote by the late Steve Jobs which greatly resonates with me ,as I currently manage events for corporate clients of the company I work for. I could never have imagined a job requiring as many varied skills as this one. With equally challenging roles of managing people, time, costs and creativity, the events industry has gave me the opportunity to fully utilise each and every dot I’ve ever gotten. What a blessing !
With a new thought in hand now and a laptop in the other, I believe that coding is the next language of the world or language of future if I may. Hence going digital is looking to be a natural step forward – the next few dots a-coming. From taking Harvard’s online course in Computer Science to reading up on the Digital Media strategies, understanding the impeding impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) and self-learning Web Development, I plan to continue connecting these dots forward.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I wish you a joyful day full of contentment. Cheers !
