In today’s world, language as a barrier is the least desirable. It is necessary that every person in this world understands what others have to say. English, for historical reasons, has taken this globalised form and is slowly becoming the voice of the world. English is necessary to develop our global identity and it can be identified with 3 C’s: Communication, Connectivity and Collaboration namely.
Being from an English medium school in India where English was the primary language of instruction, I have an experience of learning English for the past 14 years. I have scored 96% and 95% marks in All India Secondary Certificate Examination in English (Communication) - 2013 and All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in English (Core) - 2015 respectively.
Right from my childhood, I was habituated towards reading extensively. This further developed into writing poetry in English and I wrote my first poem at the age of 6 1/2 . My poems got published in various anthologies including India and UK. I also received appreciatory review from the University of Oxford in 2011 for my poetry and in January 2014, I published my maiden poetry book titled ‘A Little Bud Learns to Blossom’ in New Delhi. I was selected as a ‘Star Correspondent’ by ‘The Times of India’ (World’s largest selling English language newspaper) and ‘Junior Journo’ by DNA YA! (Mumbai 3rd largest selling English language newspaper). I was subsequently awarded the ‘Best Star Correspondent’ Award in 2013. In 2012, I was also selected among ’90 most talented children of India’ by Cadbury Bournvita.
I started my own monthly e-magazine titled ‘Young Chronicle’ in 2011 and interviewed famed names which includes Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India. In 2014, I was selected by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan and HRD Ministry, India for JENESYS Program for an all-expense-paid 8 day cultural and heritage tour of Tokyo and Yokohama amongst 80 other children from all over India.
In 2015 I was the only student from India to get selected for Tohoku University. I was subsequently selected as a ‘Miyagi Tourism Ambassador’ by Miyagi Prefectural Government and Sendai Television Broadcasting Corporation. In January 2016, I was selected as a ‘Global Student Ambassador’ by University of Tokyo for discussing International Education.
Right now, I am also a Core Committee Member for organising the 31st Tohoku University International Festival.
Back in India, I have been highly interested in education and have voluntarily taught orphan children, children form economically weaker backgrounds and mentally-challenged children. I was a panellist at ‘LearnShift India 2015’, a national conference on educational innovation and development too.
I have always believed that the key to education today lies in the spirit of engagement, sharing and technology. My goal as a teacher shall be to design a student-specific teaching method, inculcating the spirit of two-way instruction method in the classroom and student-led learning. I shall try to create a ‘Self Organised Learning Environment’ for the student to get himself/herself involved with the core of the subject.
I want that my experience in English language for the past 14 years just doesn’t stay confined within me. My contribution in helping a student learn a language is not just a matter of self-satisfaction but also an honour as I believe that in this way I can open a whole new world of opportunities for the student. After all, the success of a teacher lies in the success of a student. I have always loved teaching. I see this as a key to the future. Education is the backbone of our society and any work towards expanding it is fruitful and of immense importance.
