I grew up in a bilingual home, so I have had the opportunity to learn both English, Japanese, and even Chinese. Furthermore, my mother is an English teacher, so my knowledge in regards of how to approach teaching others is rather extensive. I have always had a naturally interest and ability to help others learn languages. I first started teaching others when I was in high school. Afterwards, I took on a part-time job in college and became more serious about teaching English to others as a second language. It is during this time that I gained confidence in my skill to teach others. At one point I was teaching 5 people a week. My students have ranged from adults in their 30s and 40s to young children that were only 2 to 4 years old. I have taught in groups and on a one-on-one basis. I am able to create comprehensive lesson plans, as well as exercises and drills tailored to the student`s level of English and their interests. Also, I make it a priority to build relationships with my students in order establish a path of open communication to motivate and enhance their learning.
I am very open-minded and flexible. I am able to adapt to the students` personal interests and level of English. I am patient, kind, and will go to a great extent to try to understand the student and meet the individual where he or she is. My main goal is for the student to get as much out of the lessons as possible. I also believe it is important to have fun and enjoy the experience of learning English, so I try to bring positivity and energy to each meeting. I am open to hearing from student exactly what it is that they want to focus on and can tailor my approach to his or her needs and abilities.
