Hello,
my name is Josh. I am 27 years old, from Germany, and have been living in Japan for the past eight months. I am currently based in Takatsuki.
Since November last year, I have been teaching English at an international after-school program. Before that, while studying at university, I worked as a tutor at a private tutoring institute in Germany, where I taught both English and German.
I mainly taught elementary and middle school students, but I also worked with high school students and adults.
In many cases, I prepared students for school exams, but I also helped them improve their conversational abilities and build confidence in speaking. Because I learned English as a foreign language myself, I understand the challenges students face and know effective strategies to overcome them.
Some of my students learned German as a second language, and all of them learned English as a foreign language. Because of this, I have experience teaching both languages to foreign learners.
In total, I have almost three years of experience teaching English and more than two years teaching German.
In addition, I volunteered full-time at a kindergarten in Germany, where I learned a great deal about working with children and supporting their development in an educational setting.
I graduated from law school and enjoy staying active in my free time. I am particularly interested in football, taekwondo, and yoga. I also love animals, especially rabbits.
My teaching style is energetic and interactive. I enjoy creating lessons that include a lot of conversational practice and encourage students to actively use the language. Recently, I have also focused on phonics and on teaching expressions that are commonly used in everyday life. At the same time, I place great importance on explaining grammar clearly and helping students understand how to use it in real situations.
Even if you are shy or not confident speaking English yet, that is completely okay. My goal is to create a relaxed and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable practicing and making mistakes.
