Hello. My name is Nicholas Becker. I am originally from Honolulu, Hawaii. I am currently resisiding in Kanagawa, Japan, where I work as an English teacher. Following high school I endeavored to pursue opportunities that would allow me to live and work in Japan. In 2006, during my university summer vacation, I had the opportunity to teach English at an International high school in Futako-Tamagawa, Japan. Before my departure, I had high expectations for Japan as well as my students. I worried about my ability to teach well or at least adequately enough to achieve curriculum standards. Almost immediately upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised to find all of my worries quelled. My job as an English teacher exceeded all of my expectations. I have since graduated (Fall '09) with a bachelor of science with an emphasis in entrepreneurship major at Chapman University in Orange County, Ca.
For the past two years I have been working at Amity English School. Through my experiences here I’ve gained invaluable knowledge about teaching English effectively. As most of my students are children, I believe I’ve developed a diverse array of teaching styles in order to properly adhere to their style of learning. Not all of my students at Amity enjoy studying English, so I work hard to make lessons that are high energy, fast-paced, and ultimately fun and useful. I give these students opportunities to speak while in the context of an exciting game or activity. For more serious students, I work hard to make lessons that are interesting and that really challenge their English abilities.
